ANDRÉ RIEU & Orchestra

28.05.2010

André Rieu, the Dutch violinist and orchestra leader, has so far sold more than 30m albums worldwide. Together with his Johann Strauss Orchestra consisting of 50 musicians, he gives concerts on five continents.

Every year, more than 700,000 enthusiasts experience his extraordinary concerts, making him one of the top ten artists on tour. In the USA, he was crowned No. 1 classical artist, and in Australia he has received platinum for his recordings and DVDs over 100 times.

André Rieu: “Even as a child, I was fascinated by music. My father was a conductor and I have fond memories of the orchestra’s grandiose sound, of the many bows moving in unison. I found this absolutely enthralling! However, one thing always astonished me and that was the heavy atmosphere at these concerts. Everybody put on a stern face, nobody was allowed to clear his throat, let alone laugh, even though the music generated such enormous joy!“
“The waltz attracted me to such an extent that a few years later, it became the rhythm of my life: a musician’s life in three-four time. Of course, nowadays my orchestra and I play much more than just waltzes. It is my dream to make all classical music accessible to the broad public.”

During his 2010 tour, the ‘King of Waltz’ will again hold his audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland hostage in a world of waltzes, musicals and classical sounds.

Performance: 28 May 2010
Begin: 8pm
