Horst Lichter

11.02.2011 20:00

When the extraordinary TV-chef Horst Lichter went on tour in 2008 with his programme ‘Sushi ist auch keine Lösung!‘ (Sushi is not a solution either ), many of his fans experienced a completely new aspect of this fun-loving, moustachioed star. His entertaining and unusual anecdotes from the history of eating and of his life, inspired both the audience and the press. So far, more than 100,000 spectators have experienced this unwavering defender of cream and butter live and made Horst Lichter Germany’s most successful ‘Live Chef’. Now he is back with his brand new programme ‘Kann denn Butter Sünde sein?‘ (Can butter possibly be a sin?)

In his inimitable way, in ‘Kann denn Butter Sünde sein?‘ Horst Lichter, takes his audience along with him on a journey through the TV studios and kitchens of this world and offers his fans a private glimpse into the unique story of his life. Be they colleagues from TV, nutrition scientists, celebrities or even he himself – all of them are given their due. Horst Lichter always looks beyond the horizon, especially since during filming and on private journeys, he has had many opportunities to get acquainted with the habits and customs of different countries. Not even on vacation would he stop from peeking into the typical kitchens of different nationalities, but even on the journeys themselves, he has some quite strange experiences. Whenever Horst goes on a trip, by air, bus or rail, he inevitably has a story to tell on his return. This apart, he also has his own ideas about cooking in Germany and approaches all the diet fetishists and anorexic models with one simple question: “Can butter possibly be a sin?” He answers it live on stage where he occasionally also gets the oven going while telling his extraordinary and humorous stories. Horst Lichter started training as a chef when he was 14 years old. Since 1989, he has been running his own restaurant, the ‘Oldiethek’, in Butzheim near Rommerskirchen. He first started appearing on TV In 1999 and finally became known throughout Germany with his appearances on Johannes B. Kerners’ weekly cooking show (jetzt ‚Lanz kocht‘) and, above all on ‘Lafer! Lichter! Lecker!‘. Together with Markus Lanz, he gives an account of his life in the book ‘Und plötzlich guckst du bis zum lieben Gott‘ (And all of a sudden you look at God), which became a bestseller, and his cooking books have meanwhile become standard references in many German kitchens.
